About the Math Club!

Picture
You are probably wondering what the heck we do at a math club besides math. Actual math work makes up a small part of what we do as a club. We are a social club whose aim is to help students, and not just math students, meet one another. We want to forge solid friendships that are an integral part of university life (lol @ integral.) We want to bring the world of math to everyone and make it accessible and fun for those who previously did not enjoy math and challenging and intriguing for those who already love it. We run a variety of social events like movie/TV nights where we air shows like Big Bang Theory or Numbers and movies like A Beautiful Mind, Proof etc. We do fundraising throughout the year to bring bigger and better events to the club. We celebrate math holidays like Pi Day (March 14th).

We also provide assistance to those students who might need a little assistance in learning the language of math. Yes, math is a language, and once you master that language it opens up an entire world of interesting and challenging possibilities. We are collaborating with Sean Legge to help run math help sessions twice a week. These are open to all students and we invite anyone to come and work on their math assignments or just study their notes. If you have a question we'll do our best to help answer it, if you are stuck we'll do our best to un-stick you and if you are hopelessly lost we'll try to provide a map. We also arrange private tutoring. If you click here you will be taken to our tutoring request form. Please fill it out and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Hopefully this gives you a better idea of what the math club is all about and we hope to see many of you out for our events throughout the year. Welcome to the 2009/2010 math club!
