About the Scholarship

One $500 scholarship, in the form of a tuition credit will be awarded. Application will be judged on both gpa and your written submission. The write-up should be between three and four pages double-spaced. It may be either typed or hand written. Feel free to include any relevant images.

The purpose of the written submission is to investigate a topic (old or new) of interest within mathematics or one related to mathematics. The submission should include any relevant definitions, theorems, and proofs necessary for the exploration of the topic. Historical information or relevance of the topic may be included, but the focus is on the math.

Just remember whichever topic you choose, this is a mathematical paper. Be sure to list all sources used: citing style is irrelevant as long as the same one is used throughout. Award will be granted based upon mathematical content and yes, writing quality.

The “Social Mathematicians” scholarship committee will choose and notify the winner by e-mail no later than Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

Warning: Plagiarism is a serious academic offence. See the UofL calendar for information on rules and penalties.
